Lladró Porcelain

Lladró figurines are made from porcelain, a fine white ceramic body fired at high temperature. The company developed proprietary pastes and glazes over decades, aiming for a translucent yet strong material that suits delicate modelling. Standard Lladró porcelain gives the familiar pale, slightly satin surface seen on many pastel figurines. In the 1970s the firm introduced a gres body with a warmer tone and more matte appearance, used for rustic or ethnic themes. Porcelain allows thin flower petals, fingers and lace effects that would chip easily in coarser clay. Artisans sculpt master models in plaster, then create multipart moulds for casting slip into those fine shapes. After drying, specialists add applied flowers, trims and tiny accessories by hand. Glazing and firing lock these details into the surface so they become part of the structure. This porcelain base gives Lladró pieces their lightness in the hand and their clear bell-like sound when gently tapped.
