A small rim chip can often be stabilized and visually blended by a professional ceramic restorer. Restoration can make a display piece look far better, yet it usually lowers resale value for collectors who want untouched condition. If you plan to restore, document the damage first with photos, then keep the restorer’s invoice, as transparency helps if you ever decide to sell. For dining use, repaired areas are best kept away from food contact, since many fillers and paints are not food-safe. If the chip is tiny and on the foot ring, some collectors accept it as normal wear. For larger breaks, ask a restorer whether the item will hold structural strength, a tureen lid or a teapot spout takes more stress than a cabinet plate.
