Did later factories copy Chelsea porcelain?

Yes. Factory histories note that later manufacturers produced imitations of the Chelsea style, and some sources mention 19th-century copies of earlier Chelsea designs made by Coalport. Such copying can be misleading to buyers, as a later piece may have Chelsea patterning or a figure pose. Markings may also be copied, so a Chelsea anchor alone is not sufficient. Look for signs of later production, like a different feel of the paste, a different glaze pattern, and overly thick decoration. See the rim and base wear up close, as natural wear from long use usually looks irregular and soft.
