Do Spode patterns stay the same across centuries?

Some Spode patterns have extraordinary continuity, yet small changes can appear across long production runs. Blue Italian is a good example, as it was launched in 1816 and still remains in production, which means two plates with the same core design can come from very different eras. Over time, you may see shifts in backstamp wording, body type, glaze tone, and the exact shade of blue from batch to batch. You might even see changes in which pieces exist in the range, since modern catalogues sell mugs and sets that did not exist in early service formats. For collectors, this is the fun part, matching a grandparent’s platter with a new dinner plate can work visually, and the stamp difference tells the family timeline. If you want a closely matched set, shop within one stamp era.
