How can you date Coalport porcelain using marks?

The marks are helpful, but they rarely indicate an exact year. Reference guides note that early Coalport pieces often have no marks, leading to dating by analysing the shape and decoration. Later pieces display mill names, wreaths, the word "England," and pattern numbers, which can narrow down the period. Some sources mention corporate name changes and mill relocations in the 1900s, so a later mark associated with "Coalport China Ltd" points to a different period than an earlier reference to "Coalbrookdale." A good method is to photograph the base, compare it to tables of dated marks, and then compare the shape with museum examples of the same band.
