Is Minton “porcelain” the same as bone china?

Many Minton wares marketed as fine china are bone china, a type of porcelain-like ceramic that includes bone ash in the body. Bone china is known for strength and a bright, translucent look when held to light. Minton produced bone china tableware as part of its fine output, which is why collectors often describe Minton dinner sets as “Minton bone china.” That said, some sellers sometimes label any white-bodied fine ware as “porcelain,” even when the body is bone china. The safest route is to read the base mark and pattern name, then match it to known Minton catalogue images or museum examples. Good photos of the rim, foot, and translucency always help more than the word choice in a listing title.
