Chelsea botanicals are plant-painted ware that replicates 18th-century botanical illustrations. Chelsea descriptions note that some of the tableware featured vivid, botanically accurate depictions of plants, and the factory's proximity to the Chelsea Physicist Garden is often mentioned as part of the context. The artists are associated with printed sources, such as works by Philip Miller and Georg Dionysius Ehret. Look for careful brushwork, natural plant poses, and bright enamel colour. Botanicals may show knife marks from use, as well as edge scratches. A clean, well-painted dessert plate can be collectible even with minor wear, but extensive restoration changes the value.
