What does “retired” mean for a Lladró figurine?

Lladró Porcelain

When Lladró retires a figurine, the company stops producing it and removes it from the active catalogue. Existing stock remains in shops until sold, but no new casts are made. Over time, retired status tends to reduce availability on the market, especially for complex or fragile designs. Collector guides and the Lladró Museum in Almàssera preserve records of many retired pieces, including dates and stylistic notes. Once a figurine is retired, interest may increase among collectors who missed it at retail, though prices still depend on theme, condition and rarity. Some retired pieces remain common because large numbers were made, while others become hard to find within a few years. Owners of retired figurines often look up retirement dates to help with valuation or simply to understand where a piece fits in the brand’s history.
