A cabinet plate is a plate intended primarily for display rather than dinner service. Chelsea style cabinet plates often feature high-quality paint and ornate rims, designed for display in cabinets or on walls in the 18th century. The term is still used in today’s listings to describe decorative plates with a rich Rococo style. Check for edge chips, restored cracks, and repainting, as the front of the plates can sometimes be damaged. Also pay attention to the back, proper base rim, age-appropriate wear, and a convincing mark strengthen trust.
