What is Coalport “Batwing,” and how does it look?

"Batwing" is a collector's nickname for a family of Coalport patterns, typically featuring cobalt blue, wing-shaped panels, rich gold, and floral or ornamental centres. It appears on tea and dinnerware, and many surviving examples are presented as individual plates, cups, and saucers, rather than complete sets. Auction and dealer records use "Batwing" to group several closely related panel colours and designs, so identification is usually based on panel shape, the Coalport mark, and pattern number. For dating, the style of the stamp on the back is the best guide, as the same appearance was produced over several years.
