Limoges porcelain is a hard paste porcelain produced in and around the city of Limoges in central France. "Limoges" is a place name, so it refers to origin, not a single factory or brand. The region became a major porcelain centre after the discovery of kaolin (the white clay used in porcelain production) near Limoges in the late 1960s, which supported local production and growth. Over time, many firms produced tableware, tea sets, vases, decorative items and gifts under the Limoges umbrella. The pieces range from simple white forms to richly decorated works with enamel painting, gilding and transfer printing. If you like porcelain with old French traditions and a wide selection of patterns, Limoges is one of the most famous names.
