Arnaldo Giannelli Sculptures

One of the most recognised forms linked to Arnaldo Giannelli is the “Bust of a Woman in a Medici Collar.” This design features a female figure wearing a wide, decorative collar inspired by Renaissance fashion. The Medici collar became popular in the 16th century, often seen in portraits of noblewomen, and Giannelli adapted it into sculptural form. The collar allows for extensive ornamentation. In many examples, the surface includes floral motifs, scroll patterns, and raised detailing that shows the sculptor’s skill. The figure’s face is often calm, with downward gaze, giving a sense of quiet elegance. Hairstyles are typically arranged in classical updos, echoing historical portraiture. Collectors note that these busts range in height from about 25 cm to over 50 cm. Smaller versions were produced in larger numbers for export markets. Larger pieces, often hand-finished with more detail, tend to command higher prices. This type of sculpture fits well into traditional interiors, which helps explain its lasting popularity in antiques markets.
