What is the Chelsea “raised anchor” period known for?

The raised anchor period is in the early anchor timeline, often given in museum summaries around 1750–1752. During this phase, factory descriptions describe a need for decorative pieces to attract attention, as well as a growing reliance on painting and modelling. The anchor appears in relief rather than simply painted, which is why it can be seen in photographs. Raised anchor pieces are favoured by collectors because of their location at the turning point, near the factory's mid-century rise under Sprimont. When purchasing, inspect the edges and handles carefully, as early Chelsea soft-paste may have minor scratches along the edges, and raised marks may have worn away from use. A raised anchor that remains brittle on a heavily worn base may indicate later tooling or intricate joining of parts.
