What is the Coalport “Indian Tree” pattern?

The Indian Tree pattern is a long-standing Coalport ware design featuring a stylized tree, flowers, and rim motifs, derived from Chinese prototypes rather than Indian sources. Reference summaries credit Coalport with creating the pattern, and it was widely copied with many later variations among British makers. Dates vary: one pottery history source places the earliest production around 1802, with other dates proposed close to it. On authentic pieces, look for hand-painted colour over a design outlined in fine porcelain, as well as back stamps appropriate to the period of production. The pattern name and the style of the back stamp offer a stronger match than the pattern name alone.
