Caughley was a nearby Shropshire porcelain factory that changed hands in the late 18th century. Sources describe the sale of Caughley's lease, factories, and stock in 1799 to partners in Coalport, including John Rose. Following this, Caughley continued to produce porcelain for decoration and finishing in Coalport. By 1814, both factories were under the control of John Rose, and production was consolidated in Coalport. This is one reason why some pieces blur the lines between "Caughley" and "Coalport" in terms of style, shapes, and painted decoration.
