What makes Höchst Porcelain different from Meissen?

Höchst and Meissen both produce hard-paste porcelain, yet they differ in history and style. Meissen started earlier, around 1710 near Dresden, while Höchst opened in 1746 near Frankfurt am Main. Meissen uses the crossed swords mark; Höchst uses the Mainz wheel. Meissen’s scale, output, and influence grew very large, with many patterns repeated over centuries. Höchst remained smaller, with a strong focus on court commissions and regional clients. Its figures and services share Rococo features with Meissen, yet shapes, facial types, and painting habits give Höchst its own character that connoisseurs learn to recognise.
