Early work is associated with the Bow Factory in east London, and around 1749–50 the business moved to an area called "New Canton", near Bow Bridge and the River Lee, near Stratford High Street. The name resonated Canton/Guangzhou, the main export centre for Chinese porcelain in the trade with Great Britain, and signalled the factory's desire to compete with imported products with local production. If you see the inscription "Made at New Canton" with a date such as 1750, this inscription points directly to this London-area factory.
