Capodimonte Porcelain

Capodimonte Porcelain was founded by King Charles III of Bourbon in Naples in 1743. He aimed to produce porcelain equal to the respected European factories of the time, such as Meissen and Sèvres. The royal factory operated within the palace complex and employed skilled artists, chemists, and craftsmen. Production focused heavily on hand-formed figurines, flowers, and elaborately decorated tableware. When Charles III left Naples to become King of Spain in 1759, equipment and artisans relocated, creating the Spanish Buen Retiro factory. Italian production later resumed under new ownership and style shifts. The origins remain linked to royal patronage and Neapolitan cultural identity.
