Gold edges are part of Royal Albert’s traditional look. The gold is applied as a metallic overglaze and fired so it bonds to the surface. On cups and saucers, gilding frames the floral decoration and adds contrast against bright white china. Condition matters; washing, abrasion, and stacking can wear gilding, especially on rims where fingers and lips touch. For collectors, sharp gilding is often a quick sign of good care, along with a clean glaze and no chips. For owners, gentle hand washing and soft separators in storage help preserve the finish and slow future wear.
