Michael Harris was a British glass designer who founded Mdina Glass in 1968. Before moving to Malta, he worked with British studio glass, gaining experience in handmade techniques. His aim was to establish a glass industry on the island that combined local inspiration with modern design. Harris introduced free-blown glass styles that avoided rigid shapes, focusing instead on natural forms and colour layering. He stayed with Mdina Glass until 1972, after which he returned to the UK and later founded Isle of Wight Studio Glass. During his time in Malta, he trained local workers, many of whom continued production after his departure. Pieces from his period are often considered the most valuable, especially those with early signatures. His influence remains visible in Mdina Glass designs, particularly in the use of organic shapes and blended colours.
