19th Century, Qing Dynasty Chinese Blue and White Porcelain Ginger Jar
€285.79
This 19th century Qing Dynasty Chinese blue and white porcelain ginger jar features a hand-painted landscape motif in rich cobalt blue against a pale glazed ground. Originally used for storing and transporting spices such as ginger, these jars became highly sought-after decorative objects in Europe and North America during the 18th and 19th centuries due to the growing fascination with Chinese export porcelain.
The rounded form is decorated with mountainous scenery, flowing water, and stylized foliage, painted in a fluid brushwork typical of late Qing Dynasty porcelain. The jar retains its original unglazed rim and displays visible signs of age and use that add to its authentic antique character. Signs of old repair are present, along with a small crack to the neck of the jar. Signs of old repair to the neck of the jar.
