This Limited Edition Wedgwood Black Basalt Bust of King Charles III was produced by Wedgwood to commemorate the wedding of H.R.H. The Prince of Wales (now King Charles III) and Lady Diana Spencer at St. Paul's Cathedral on 29 July 1981. Modelled by renowned British sculptor David McFall RA, this striking bust is crafted in Black Basalt stoneware, an unglazed ceramic developed by Josiah Wedgwood in 1768 and celebrated for its rich matte black finish and finely sculpted detail.
Inspired by the classical sculptures of ancient Greece and Rome, Wedgwood's Black Basalt has remained one of the company's most iconic materials for over 250 years. Produced at Barlaston, Stoke-on-Trent, England, this commemorative bust was issued as Limited Edition No. 185 of only 500 pieces, making it a highly collectible piece of British royal and Wedgwood history. Accompanied by its original certificate of authenticity, it is a fine example of both artistic craftsmanship and royal memorabilia.
