Are Arita glass pieces handmade?

Arita ware

Many Arita glass pieces are handmade, especially those produced by smaller studios. The process involves shaping clay, applying decoration, and integrating glass elements by hand. Even in larger workshops, several stages rely on manual work. Handcrafted pieces often show slight variations in shape and finish, which collectors value. Some factories use moulds for consistency, though decoration and glass work may still be done by hand. Annual output varies widely, from a few hundred items in artisan studios to thousands in larger operations. The handmade aspect contributes to the appeal and pricing of these items.
