Are Limoges porcelain dishes dishwasher safe?

Many Limoges pieces were intended for table use, but care depends on the decoration. Plain white porcelain without a metal finish often tolerates gentle machine washing, although owners who want longevity still hand wash. Gold-plated rims, platinum bands and painted enamels are at greater risk in dishwashers, as detergents and heat cycles can dull the metal finish or soften painted accents over time. Antiques deserve special care, where age, previous wear and older enamels can react badly to harsh cleaners. If you cannot confirm the modern care instructions provided by the manufacturer, treat the piece as you would fine china, use mild soap, warm water, a soft sponge, do not soak for a long time, and dry soon after washing.
