How durable is Heritage Irish Crystal compared to standard glass?

Heritage Irish Crystal is more durable in some ways and more delicate in others. The added lead oxide increases weight and thickness, which can make the glass feel sturdier in hand. This also reduces the likelihood of minor chips from light use. At the same time, crystal is more brittle than standard glass. A strong impact or sudden temperature change can cause cracks or breakage. For example, pouring very hot liquid into a cold crystal glass may lead to damage. Proper care can extend the lifespan of these items for decades. Many crystal pieces from the 19th century are still intact today, showing how long they can last with careful handling. Dishwashers are not always recommended, as strong detergents and high heat can dull the surface over time. Hand washing with mild soap is usually preferred.
