What are Royal Worcester egg coddlers?

Egg spatulas are porcelain cups with lids for boiling eggs in hot water, and Royal Worcester has become closely associated with them. The Royal Worcester Museum notes that from 1910 to 1928, spatulas were registered in factory books as “Premier Egg Cooks,” and many of them have patent registration number 561564. The museum adds that in 1931, spatulas and other oven-baked dishes were made of a new “fire-resistant porcelain” designed to withstand thermal shock. Collectors look for undamaged edges, matching lids, clear markings, and clean inner glass. If a spatula has fine cracks or the lid does not close properly, the value will quickly drop. Pattern names such as “Worcester Willow” and “Pekin” are common on popular examples.
