Vista Alegre is a historic Portuguese manufacturer of porcelain, crystal and glass, founded in 1824 by José Ferreira Pinto Basto. The original factory stands in Ílhavo, near Aveiro, on a property once called Vista-Alegre da Ermida. The company received a royal charter from King João VI in the same year, which gave it prestige and support from the crown. Over time Vista Alegre grew from a single factory into an industrial complex with workshops, housing, a theatre and a chapel, forming a small company town around the works. Today the brand is part of Grupo Vista Alegre Atlantis, which joins porcelain production with Atlantis crystal. Vista Alegre sells tableware, decor pieces, giftware and hotel ware to clients around the world, while keeping core production in Portugal. The brand’s long history, continuous production and royal links give it strong recognition among collectors of European porcelain and among buyers who like European heritage brands.
