Early Capodimonte porcelain used a soft-paste formula developed by chemists at the royal palace workshop. The material allowed detailed sculpting with a distinct milky tone after firing. The recipe differed from hard-paste porcelain produced in Germany or China. The soft-paste mixture required great skill during shaping and firing because it could deform easily if not handled correctly. Later production formulas evolved over time, depending on the workshop and era.
