Myott was a well-known British pottery company founded in 1898 in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, an area often called “The Potteries”. The firm began as a small family concern started by Ashley Myott and his brothers. Early production focused on simple domestic wares such as teapots, jugs, and bowls. By the early 20th century, the company had grown into a respected name in British ceramics. Records show that by the 1920s, Myott employed several hundred workers and produced thousands of pieces each week. The location in Stoke-on-Trent gave access to clay, skilled labour, and transport links, all of which helped expansion. During the 1930s, Myott gained attention for stylish Art Deco designs, many created by designer Clarice Cliff, who worked with the firm for a period. The company continued trading through both World Wars, though production shifted during wartime. By the mid-20th century, Myott exported widely, reaching markets in North America and Australia. The firm later became part of a larger group after merging with Alfred Meakin in 1976.
