Why can FRANZ Collection porcelain be expensive?

FRANZ Collection Porcelain

Prices for FRANZ pieces reflect several factors. Sculptural porcelain with complex relief requires more labour than flat printed tableware. Each design passes through modelling, mould preparation, casting, trimming, hand finishing, multiple firings, and hand painting. Production bases in Jingdezhen and other ceramic hubs still involve many skilled workers, from sculptors to decorators. The brand also invests in design teams, marketing, and international distribution networks. Limited editions, museum collaborations, or designs retired after short runs often command higher prices on the secondary market. Some early or award-winning pieces attract collectors who specialize in FRANZ or in contemporary art porcelain, and their bids drive up auction results. Retail prices in department stores reflect both craftsmanship and positioning as a premium gift line. Size and complexity also matter: large vases with elaborate sculptural groups often cost far more than simple mugs or small plates.
