Why do some Limoges pieces have two or three marks?

Multiple marks often reflect the way the porcelain was made and sold. A single workshop might produce a blank form (a plate, a cup, a vase) which could then be sold to a decoration studio which paints and gilds it, then the retailer can add their own stamp. So, you can see Limoges France, the factory emblem and the decorator's name or symbol together. The placement of marks can help with identification, where a factory mark indicates body and shape, a decorator's mark indicates style and finish, and a retailer's mark may indicate the original market. If the marks look the same in age and location, multiple stamps are normal, not a problem.
